A Panorama of Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting
The main target of the exhibition was to bring the public outside Greece in touch with important works of Byzantine and post-Byzantine art, whether they were already well known or not. Geographically, the exhibition covered almost all Greece, while chronologically it extended from the 10th to the 17th century. The objects, a small but representative sample of Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting, were chosen so as to make visible the trends, directions, ideas, aesthetics and techniques of the major art centers (like Thessaloniki, Crete, Mount Athos), but also of the lesser provincial areas.
