Timeline of Selected BCM Exhibitions until 2010
A Historical and Ideological Review
The visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to see how the Museum's collections were established, and also experience its unique richness as well as link known and unknown exhibits with the respective historical information. The exhibition showed the historical changes in the perception of Byzantine art, through the different ideological approach and organization that characterized the (older) Museum of the Christian Archaeological Society on the one hand (ChAE) and the Byzantine & Christian Museum on the other, which was founded in 1914. At the same time, it documented the general museological assumption that the attitude of a museum's scholars-managers towards history has a primary role to play in its organization. The units of the exhibition followed the creation of the Museum's collections in chronological order and were associated with the historical context of the time.
