The Nativity of Christ
The icon combines the scene of the birth of Christ with the scene of the announcement Nativity's joyful message to the sheperds, one of whom is depicted in the foreground with his flock and his dog, playing a wind musical instrument. The artwork, probably made by a Venetian or Greek-Venetian workshop in the third quarter of the 14th century, has strong references to the Byzantine style of painting, especially in St Joseph's depiction.
