The Elevation of the Holy Cross
The icon shows the scene when the Patriarch of Jerusalem Makarios presented the Holy Cross to the people of this city. The Patriarch stands between the emperor Constantine and his mother, Helena, who had taken the initiative of the discovery of the relic. The work is dated in 1675 and it is the only known by the painter Simos Rodiakos (Simos the Rhodian), who apparently worked in Asia Minor.
