Marble pilaster capital
Marble pilaster capital, decorated with a dense sequence of acanthus leaves, carved with extensive use of a drill. The drill technique creates an intense interplay of light and shade and an impressive and aesthetically pleasing result. Capitals in the so-called “Theodosian” style were commonly decorated in this way across the empire during the 5th c.
