Theotokos “Lady the Lambovitissa”
The Virgin, wearing a gold crown, sits on a marble throne and holds Christ blessing. To the left of the throne, the painter Emmanuel Tzanes signs his work.
The figure of the Virgin is influenced by Italian representations of the Virgin in the type of Madre della Consolazione, but Emmanuel Tzanes manages to create an exceptional, original composition.
The name of the Virgin Mary "Lady the Lambovitissa" refers to the Lambovitissa Monastery in Corfu, the island from which the icon comes.
